Scout leaders hunt for marriage certificate left in taxi
A newly married couple in Oxford are on a city wide hunt for their marriage certificate which has been lost in the back of a taxi!
The scout leaders - Rebecca Lord and Richard Butler – found themselves desperately contacting every taxi firm in the city after it transpired that the groom’s two best men had left a rucksack containing the marriage certificate in the back of a taxi. The news transpired just as the couple were about to travel to New York for their honeymoon. Mrs Butler said “Our wedding was such fun and everyone had such a lot to drink, I think our best men just forgot about the backpack.”
The couple are offering a £100 reward for the return of the marriage certificate – no questions asked. Mr Butler pointed out that although they could replace the marriage certificate, they would really like to have the original returned as it is “the first thing we have signed together as a married couple and it would be really nice to see it again”.
This story could almost have been a deleted scene from the 2009 film The Hangover where a stag-do to Las Vegas results in the best men getting drunk and losing the groom. Although admittedly Oxford is hardly the ‘Las Vegas of Britain’ (I believe that title is reserved for Blackpool) and at least it was only the marriage certificate and not the groom that they lost!
If you know the whereabouts of the missing marriage certificate, please contact St Aldate’s Police Station in Oxford or the offices of the Oxford mail.
