Same Sex Couples Will Be Able To Convert Civil Partnerships To Marriage

As from 10th December 2014, same sex couples already in a civil partnership will be able to convert their civil partnership to a civil marriage.

They will be able to do so by attending a Registry Office and signing a declaration that they now wish to be married in the presence of a Registrar.

The Home Secretary has agreed to waive the conversion fee of £45 for a period of one year from 10th December 2014 for same sex couples who entered into a civil partnership before 29th March 2014 (the date on which same sex couples were given the right to marry).
